The Passing of Very Rev. Fr. Thomas Powathuparampil

THUCKALAY — The Eparchy of Thuckalay has announced with deep sorrow the passing of beloved priest, Very Rev. Fr. Thomas Powathuparampil. In an official communication released by the Chancery, the diocese informed its clergy, religious sisters, and the faithful that Fr. Powathuparampil has been called to his eternal reward.

Opening with the scripture from 2 Timothy 4:7, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith," the announcement expressed the diocese's grief while resting in the hope of the Resurrection.

To honor his memory, the diocese issued a schedule for public viewing and funeral rites:

• Public Homage: A public viewing was arranged for Monday, June 1, 2026, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM at St. Alphonsa Shrine Church in Nagercoil. A Holy Qurbana was scheduled during this time at 10:30 AM.

• Funeral Services: The final funeral services were scheduled for Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Holy Cross Church in Kooropada, Kottayam (under the Archeparchy of Changanassery).

Diocesan Directives and Tributes To ensure widespread participation in mourning the late priest, the diocese requested all Parish Priests, Superiors of Convents, and Heads of Institutions to print and display tribute flex boards on their premises.

A special appeal was made to the parishioners of the churches where Fr. Powathuparampil previously served. The diocese urged them to attend the funeral services in large numbers to pray for his departed soul and honor his cherished memory.

Furthermore, the Chancery provided transportation facilities for Reverend Fathers and Sisters attending the services, with arrangements coordinated by Fr. Subin Puthenpuraikal prior to the funeral.
